Children and young people

The early years

A good childhood can mean many things. The early years are important, and in Fredericia you’ll find the perfect setting to create exactly the kind of childhood you want.

Across the municipality, you’ll find childminders and childcare centres where happy children and wellbeing are top priorities.

Home childcare

Do you dream of more calm and time together with your children? Shape everyday life to suit your family. Fredericia is one of the municipalities where you can receive a subsidy for home childcare.

There are great opportunities for networking and community among home childcare providers. For example, the association HJEM hosts four weekly events as well as a wide range of events and activities throughout the year.

Schools

Happy children learn best. Schools should be great places to be and to learn—where children’s everyday life is filled with play, learning and community.

Schools focus on collaboration, academic standards, motivation and creative learning. In addition, individual schools have special focus areas such as sport, musicals or the Blue School, where much of the teaching takes place outdoors.

Madsby Play Park

Kids will love living close to Denmark’s most fun—and biggest—free play park

Madsby Play Park is a huge outdoor playland packed with experiences for the whole family. The park is a true paradise for active kids and their grown-ups, with plenty of play areas and activities for a full day out!

And when you live here, you can just go back to the park again and again—admission is free.

The park is packed with fun, like the sand playground, the mooncar track, the Tarzan course, the climbing tower, the petting animals in the mini zoo, rowing boats, mini golf, the Madsby train and much more.

You can buy ice cream and food in the park, but you can also pack a picnic and have lunch at the park’s tables and benches.

Madsby Play Park is a guaranteed hit with families with children!

Fredericia Street Bastion

The city’s new, awesome hangout for all kids and young people who want to go all in on street sports

Strap on your helmet and let loose in Jutland’s largest indoor street sports hall. Here, kids and young people can have a blast across 1,000 m² and try parkour, skateboarding, scooters, BMX or roller skates.

The Bastion has free admission and is for everyone aged 8–25.
There are always youth workers on site in the hall, but children aged 8–11 must be accompanied by an adult.

“Become part of the community at the Bastion! Here we meet across ages and interests to challenge ourselves and have fun together.”

Youth House

The Youth House is the meeting place for all young people in Fredericia aged 15–25.
Here we create awesome, inclusive settings for a wide range of activities.

Here you’ll find a social community with other young people and the chance to bring your ideas and interests to life.

The Youth House offers many different cultural activities. There’s also a café and an event hall with space for 200 people. Both are used for cultural events.

The house includes a range of workshops, facilities and activity options such as: studio, rehearsal rooms, skate park, cinema, graffiti wall, and a digital and creative space.

Visit the library

At Fredericia Library, there’s room for immersion, play and creativity for the whole family. The children’s section is full of great reading experiences, and in the cosy play area imagination can run free. Throughout the year, there are also lots of exciting events and activities on the programme.

Leisure life and activities

Leisure life in Fredericia is full of great opportunities.

We have one of the country’s largest sports centres and lots of local clubs and sports life out in the villages.

There are also plenty of opportunities to express yourself creatively, whether you want to paint, dance, sing or act.

Youth School

The Youth School is for all young people aged 13–25, and most of the activities are free. Here, any young person who wants to learn in a fun and challenging way can find activities.

You’ll find experiences, academic support, new connections and opportunities to pursue your interests. We offer a wide range of activities, day trips, youth parties and travel.

The Youth School’s key words are academic standards, immersion, community and relationships. All Youth School activities are run by skilled instructors.

Vision 2033

The city of Fredericia was born with ambition almost 375 years ago, and that still lives on in the city’s DNA today. Our vision towards 2033 sets the direction we’re working in. Among other things, we want to be the first choice for families with children.

Everyday life, friendship and gusts of wind

Read Fredericia Municipality’s policy for children, young people and education. We’ve called it Everyday life, friendship and gusts of wind because we want to ensure that all children and young people have a good everyday life, build friendships and communities, and are strengthened to face both tailwinds and headwinds in life.
