Nature and activities

Nature in your everyday life

In Fredericia, you live close to everything – including nature. Blue Flag beaches, forests, coastal landscapes and green spaces are right outside your front door.

From most homes in Fredericia, nature and green breathing spaces are within walking distance. And there are plenty of opportunities to live close to the water.

Live in Denmark’s largest nature park

Fredericia is located in Naturpark Lillebælt, the country’s largest nature park and home to one of the world’s densest populations of harbour porpoises.

Naturpark Lillebælt is a marine nature park. Almost 70% of the park is covered by sea.

Life below the surface is framed by beautiful coastal landscapes, ancient forests and charming historic towns, where plenty of nature and cultural heritage experiences await.

The nature park works to create a sea of experiences and inspire everyone to take care of nature and improve the Little Belt.

Active in nature

No matter where in Fredericia Municipality you choose to settle, you’ll have beautiful nature nearby. Here you’ll find a wide range of ways to be active outdoors.

Find your new running routes along the coast and in the forest. If you love a good walk with or without a dog, there are also plenty of green oases and trails by forest and beach. Mountain bike enthusiasts can go full throttle on the trails in Hannerup Forest and Madsby Park, while road cyclists can enjoy rolling routes through the open landscape.

With its varied nature and great facilities, Fredericia is an ideal place for outdoor activities all year round. Whether you want to get your pulse up or down.

Trelde Næs

Part of Denmark’s Nature Canon

There are many good reasons why the truly unique natural area of Trelde Næs has been named one of the country’s 15 best natural gems.

The ancient forests are home to impressive biodiversity, the high clay cliffs hide fossils that are millions of years old, and here you get both forest and beach.

You can walk or run Næsset Rundt, a 5 km route that shows you the very best of Trelde Næs. The area offers, among other things, lots of trails through the forest, a Blue Flag bathing beach, a nature playground, climbing trees in “Troldeskoven” and a nature centre with information about the area and an equipment bank where you can borrow gear for play on the beach and in the forest.

“Did you know that Fredericia Ramparts are Denmark’s perhaps most unique city park, with more than 18 km of trails and a Blue Flag beach?”

Coastal landscapes and bathing beaches

Get the best of life by the water

We have more than 50 km of coastline and plenty of lovely bathing beaches. Five of them have the Blue Flag, so when you live in Fredericia, you’re never far from sunny summer days at the beach or crisp winter walks by the water.

If you dream of winter swimming, kayaking or gliding across the water on a paddleboard, a sea of opportunities awaits in Fredericia.

Fuglsang Deer Park and Hannerup Forest

Bring the family to the forest and visit the fallow deer in the deer park

Hannerup and Fuglsang Forest is a large, continuous forest area with plenty of great nature experiences for the whole family.

Here you’ll find a great, hilly mountain bike trail, good hiking paths, a forest playground, an arboretum and Fredericia’s oldest tree. Remember to look up – the great grey owl sits enthroned on a branch in the forest.

Hannerup and Fuglsang Forest is close to the city and near several new housing developments. So maybe you’ll have the forest in your backyard?
